When it comes to the abstract form of art- Paul Jackson Pollock does not need an introduction. He was a major figure in abstract painting and the drip technique.
He had an unconventional style of painting on the floor unlike the other artists who kept their canvas vertical in front of them. He dripped the paint on the canvas, on the floor and painted with not only his hands but with his whole body. This unusual style made him a genius in modern art. Paintings by Pollock are quite expensive and it is not easy for all his fans to have one. But, there is an easy way out. You can tread on the path of Pollock and make a similar painting for yourself. You will be amazed to have your own masterpiece. Go about the following way.
You must keep all the prerequisites ready. These are paints of different colors, various sizes of paint brushes, canvas and a drop cloth to cover the floor. You can use a newspaper if drop cloth is not possible. The size of the canvas will depend on the size of painting you want. You would also need plastic squirt bottles, the ones which are used for ketchup. Wear old clothes as you would have to dispose them off.
You must choose the right area to paint; it should be spacious enough to work freely. Try to pick an empty room in the house. Remove the carpets if any. Cover the floor completely with the newspaper or the drop cloth to avoid stains of paint on the floor.
After everything is ready, start painting. Lay your canvas at a comfortable place. Be careful to place the right side of the canvas facing towards you. Now the first thing to do would be to choose the right background for your masterpiece. Whatever the color, cover the whole canvas with it. Before you start with something else on it, let the paint dry. Once the canvas is dry, take a different color in your paintbrush and swirl your hand in a way that the paint drips all over the canvas. Let this paint dry again. You can repeat the exercise again till you get the desired results.
Once you are at it, a lot from your unconscious will come out on the canvas as believed by Pollock. You could make it simpler by giving a definition to your work. It could be 'peace', 'noise' or anything under the sun. You will automatically play with colors that you best relate these words to. In fact you will be surprised to learn about your creative potential.
You must visit an art gallery which has paintings by Pollock to get more ideas and inspiration.
