Even though painting glazes may sound like a child's play, it is not as easy. The process of glazing involves painting transparent layers on top of one another to generate luminosity which cannot be created by a physically mixed color. While painting a glaze is a slightly intricate task, it can be made a little simpler provided you try the following tips.
#Tip 1 The first thing that you need to do when you make your attempt at glazing is figure out which pigments are transparent, semi transparent or even opaque. Transparent pigments make it easier for you to paint glazes. So, when you begin with glazing, start off with transparent colors first. You can try opaque colors once you become comfortable with the art.
#Tip 2 You should never move on to painting the second transparent layer till the time the first one has dried completely. Applying glaze on to wet paint results in the mixing of the two colors, which can completely spoil your painting. So, ensure that you let the glaze dry first before you proceed to paint another one.
#Tip 3 Glazing can be done best on smooth surfaces only. The color may clog up or puddle up owing to any kind of roughness. So, make sure that you get yourself a smooth paint board. You can try glazing on rough surfaces as well, but that is only when you become perfect with the task.
#Tip 4 Yet another thing that you can do to paint a perfect glazing is use a light or white colored background. Light colors reflect light so using a light colored backdrop will reflect light through various layers generating luminosity. A dark colored back drop on the other hand will absorb light, thus lessening the luminosity.
#Tip 5 It is important that you use a soft brush while painting glazes. Go in for a brush that has soft and rounded edges. Hair brushes will leave brush marks as you go about painting transparent layers, completely deriding the beauty of your painting.
#Tip 6 To give your painting the complete finishing touch, apply a layer of final glaze over the entire painting. This will lend a sense of complete uniformity to the painting. If you do not want to paint glaze over the entire painting, you can even paint the focal points in the painting. This will also create a balance in the painting
Remember; try painting a glaze only if you are a pro. Glazing is not for amateur painters looking for instant gratification. So, it is important that you master the skill before you turn to glazing.
